The Wog Boy: Film Review by Theo and Allan
The
Story begins on the boat coming to Australia. The father of the main character, Steve
Karamitis, arrived with an empty suitcase and one shoe. A year later the mother arrived,
she brought the other shoe. The parents tried to bring up their son as a typical Aussie
kid.
As a child, Steve watched a TV show called Skippy. He tried hard, but couldn't get a whistle out of a gum leaf to work. Steve went to school in full Greek uniform and the other lads were saying: Wog boy, Wog boy. Steve said: If that's what they are going to call me, then that's what I'm going to be. He grew up with an attitude.
One night he went to a nightclub. He got in for free because his 3 cousins, Dom, Nick and Tony were on the door. He loved two things in life. They were chicks and himself but not necessarily in that order. The crowd danced to the biggest wog of them all. Travolta. After that Steve went to a church called St. Nicholas. He was running a Bingo day. The winning number was 22, called out in different languages, ventetue la moi - ha.
A lady's brother was in trouble by the government. He got busted. The man, Theo, said: You bloody poofter, then they left. Steve hit a government car and started to swear in Greek. The other driver called Pietro said: Relax, it is only a tail light. Steve said: It is not a tail light, but it is an old car. Steve said: Whoa baby, give people some warning before you stick that face out in public. She replied: I'm the Minister of Employment, you little worm. Steve said: You're Mrs Ronald Macdonald?
Steve and his mate Frank went to the Pizza Shop. Celia came in and said: I am representing the Minister of Employment. They all ran out of the shop. They had an agreement. Dinner at the Italian restaurant. Steve said: Give me some white bread with cheese; don't give me that brown stuff...
When the police stopped Steve's car the next day, he stole the police car and drove to a rally in the park where Raelene, the Minister of Employment, was making a speech. Celia showed a videotape to the crowd. It was Raelene dressed in black, having a wild party. She went absolutely crazy. Celia lost her job. Raelene got fired from the Employment section.
