Australia is home to one of the most ancient civilisations known. Aborigines probably arrived from South-East Asia by an ancient land bridge at least 50,000 years ago. Evidence found at Lake George suggests it may have happened as long ago as 130,000 years ! We know much about life in the past from the work of archaeologists who study civilisations of the past and palaeontologists who study ancient plant and animal life. |
