PRINCIPAL MEMORIES - Norm Munday (Principal 1990-1994)
Bilambil School was reclassified from the beginning of 1990 due to growing numbers. At the beginning of the year there were 207 pupils housed in 7 demountable classrooms. The administration area was very cramped and this was relieved with the arrival of a full sized demountable administration unit. What we all looked forward to was the building of a new school. The children ran a mini-fete in October raising $887.

1991 saw the first steps towards the new school with the Department of Education’s successful negotiation in the purchase of land from neighbour Mr and Mrs Ross, and the building of a treatment unit to replace the septic system. The school now had 8 classes and moving quickly to nine. The start of stage one of the new school commenced in July and was completed in twelve weeks, a record time.

With numbers still increasing pressure was on for the commencement of Stage 11 and this occurred in 1992 with the building of two more classroooms, hall, extra toilets and games court area. A new canteen was incorporated in the hall as well as much needed storage space. We would have to wait until early 1995 for the completion of the buildings and extra car parking areas. The old school building became a pre school serving the local needs. The official opening of the school was performed by the local State Member of Parliament, Mr Don Beck.

By the end of 1993 school numbers were in excess of 300 with eleven classes. The school had changed from a small country school to a larger urban one. The growth had placed pressure not only on physical resources, but financial as well, and the staff appreciated the support of the parent body and general community.
