Because its average attendance had been maintained at more than 20, the school became a Public School from 1 October 1900.1 Burgess left the school in January 1902 to go to Brownlea School near Rockley near Bathurst and he was succeeded by 21-year-old Arthur Clarke who had been at Upper Pocket School.2&3
Inspector Cornish commented on the schoolground that, The school is built not 15 yds. from the government Road, and the pupils occasionally used the level portion of the Road for Drill. There is no danger, whatsoever, as the isolated position of the school does not expose the pupils to the progress of passing vehicles, not more than one or two passing throughout the day. A fair proportion of the playground is clear, and used by the scholars.1 Approval was then given for the clearing of the playground of lantana and for repairs to the schools closets of damage done by white ants.
Twenty-two-year-old Frederick Marshall was the next teacher at the school from 1902 until February 1906.1&2 Inspector William McCoy found many defects at his inspection of the school in November 1907 and in explanation of one of then-the unpunctuality of the pupils-Marshall wrote, Some of the pupils have long distances to travel to school, and in some cases two and three miles and others are detained in the morning to assist their parents, who for the most part are selectors, on the cane farms and with milking operations.1 |
