During World War 1 the school collected money for The Children’s Ten Thousand--the Belgian Fund--and was issued with a certificate for its contribution.1

Thankyou Card FOn 18 July 1918 the then teacher, Peter Gobert who had come to the school in April of that year, wrote to the Department that, ‘the secretary of the Red Cross has requested this school to pack Christmas boxes for the soldiers this year. I understand from pupils that forty boxes were packed last year; these were packed on a school day, patriotic songs & speeches were part of the programme. The secretary at Tweed Heads expects boxes by the first boat.’1 Although permission for this activity in school time was granted the telegram informing Gobert of this did not reach him and the work was done without taking school time.1 Thankyou Card B
