Springfield Convent Junior School
We are the grade 2V rappers from Springfield Convent Junior
school, Cape Town, South Africa
We are a muticultural Catholic private school in the suburb of
Wynberg, in Cape Town, the capital city of South Africa. We are
situated on the southern most point of the continent of Africa, next
to Table Mountain and at the meeting point of the two great oceans,
Atlantic - west, cold) and the Indian (warm, east). We therefore have
a varied climate, quite Mediterranean with a long winter rainfall
(now) and a wonderful dry hot summer.
Our school turned 125 years old in 1996 and was originally started on
a farm in the present grounds by Irish Catholic Dominican sisters. We
still have a few sisters on our staff, including our Junior
headmistress, Sister Caroline. We have about 800 girls in total,
from Nursery class to grade 12 - and our Junior school goes to grade 7.
The pre-school to grade 3 classes have their own computer room and
have only recently enjoyed their own e-mail addresses. We are very
excited about the bilby book rap project and look forward to
travelling through time, cyberspace and to many countries. We know a
lot about endangered animals as we have a number of many endangered
animals, insects and habitats in South Africa
Best wishes from

Hi,
This is Brendan and Andrew from ST John's Richmond we are in Grade 6.
Our class has go into the Bilby Rap thing so we decided to write in.
Our school is in Richmond, Tasmania (Australia). We have an oval, a small
library (we hope to get a big one built soon), a basketball court and
that's about it.
Tasmania has lots of historic places. There is Port Arthur, our school's
town of Richmond, Eaglehawk Neck and heaps more.
We both believe that the Thylacine (Tasmanian Tiger) could still be here in
Tasmania. Who knows? The Government have offered a $1,000,000 prize for
anyone that has proof of one that has been sighted recently, like a dead
one or perhaps even a photograph. We reckon they are around.
Sincerely,
Brendan and Andrew
Look for Brendan and Andrew's poem on the Thylacine.

Charters
Towers School of Distance Education
Hi fellow rappers,
We are a year 3 class at the Charters Towers School of Distance Education
in Queensland. We do our schoolwork from home as we live on properties
around Richmond, Mt Coolon (which is near Clermont) and Hidden Valley
(near Paluma outside Townsville).
Some of us are taught by our Mums and others have a governess who teaches them. We
have papers that we complete and send back to our teacher
in Charters Towers. Our teacher talks to us every day for half an hour
when we have our on air lessons. These lessons are conducted through two way
radios. Sometimes we have trouble hearing each other and the teacher.
We don't see each other every day but only when we visit the school for camps and the
teacher comes to visit us.
Our teacher, Miss Smith read us "An Apology to Bilbies" during our
on air lessons last week. We really enjoyed the book.
Some of us are visiting the school next week and will be able to see the book
and have a look at messages from other rappers. We can't wait.
Miss Smith is helping us out by typing the messages to the list as some of us
don't have email connections at home.
She has been reading messages to us each day.
Woodstock State School
Hello from the Year 6/7 class at Woodstock State School, North
Queensland.
Woodstock is a small town, 40 klm south of Townsville. Which takes us inland on the
Flinders Highway travelling between Townsville and Charters Towers.
There are 14 students in our class and they live in a radius of 20
klms from the school.
The children mainly live in a rural setting, farming cattle and horses and the odd
ostrich or two, and some hobby farmers and orchard growers.
One of the childrens favourite sports,
other than horse sports, would be the local soccer club. Children travel to and from
school mainly by bus, with some parents working in Townsville.
Our school population is 67 at present, with four classroom teachers (including myself as
the teaching principal), 3 teacher aides, cleaner, contract groundsperson and
many visiting
or itinerant teachers. The Yr 6/7 children participate in Chinese lessons via
teleconference facilities and have weekly library, physical education and music
lessons.
We are looking forward to this
bookrap, the first for our students.
Thankyou all,
Ms Gail Woodward (Acting Principal and
Year 6/7 teacher)
