| All Saints Anglican School Fellow Rappers, We came up with a few solutions to the problem but some of them had to be rejected and even our final solution is very dangerous. It was suggested firstly that Walpiri could climb to safety but then we realised that bilbies aren't able to climb cave walls. We then thought he could hide in a crack in the cave wall and this could be a solution but we thought the fox might see him in the morning. The solution we thought would be the best is for Walpiri to try to escape while it is still dark and he can use his senses of smell and hearing to help him and the foxes won't be able to see him in the dark. When he escapes he will need to find a very safe place to hide. Hopefully he could build a spiral burrow to hide in. We hope he makes it out safely. Year 3 at All Saints Anglican School. |

| Crestmead State School I would disguise myself, among an old campfire used by humans . Soot and ashes might prevent the foxes getting my scent. After the rain has stopped there is a chance of getting away. By Aimee, Jessica and Llewella. We are from Crestmead S.S. _____________________________________________________ I would dig a hole down as deep as I could, and then roll in the dirt and try to camouflage myself and every now and then move forward and try to pass the foxes and if they see me, I would run straight passed them and quickly dig a burrow and escape from them. By Mandy and Kim at Crestmead State School. ____________________________________________________ 1. I could be lucky and run straight through the foxes legs and escape to go and hide somewhere else. 2 The eagle comes down and flies around for a distraction so I can get out of the cave. 3 I could dig a few holes and make a noise and the foxes will look in the holes I have dug and I could get out. by BROCK JARED and BRENDON. |

| Woodhill State School Dear Rappers, We have been very busy trying to come up with some solutions to the problem. Here are some of them. Walpiri should paint a picture of himself on the wall of the cave and then shape himself into a ball. Then he could call out to the foxes to come and get him. As they enter the cave and and go towards the other Walpiri, he will roll out the entrance and escape. Other suggestions were to dig forwards in another direction and to get out of the hole and go as far away as possible. We hope to have some more ideas next week. From the Woodhill Rappers. |

Seaforth State School Our class came up with a few ideas. Walpiri could escape from the cave but we thought it was a bad idea because the foxes could smell you and also the bilby is not very fast. He could also dig in a different spot but there could be rock everywhere and it might take him a long time to dig a hole. He could also run outside and dig a tunnel and run back and dig another tunnel in the same tunnel and cover it up with dirt to hide in. When the foxes are gone he could run away. From Kevin Cahill Year 5 class Our class thought of a few ideas.
Walipiri could dig a tunnel to escape but

| Our Lady of the Assumption School Dear Fellow Rappers, We think it would be better for Walpiri to run out of the cave as fast as he can and hide among the ferns and bushes. Once Walpiri has hidden himself, he can then burrow and hide from the foxes. From Tiffany, Tony, Hannah, James, Lucy and yr 5/6B Brisbane Q |

Springfield Primary - South Africa You could go to the other side of the other side of the cave, and climb up a ledge, and if it doesn't work he could find a tunnel and find some stones if there isn't a tunnel he could find sticks and stones and make fire. Maybe my friend Eagle could irritate them. My solution is that Walpiri should go right though the tunnel and come out the other side. I'm sure the tunnel must lead somewhere. Otherwise you should hide between a rock and then when the fox comes he could just run away . Or perhaps he could call out for some help and give out a signal so that a bilby could come and save him but I think that if he was clever enough he could make a fire right at the entrance so that he could make the fox would give up and get really impatient and just walk away then the bilby would be safe and just go away back to his home where his friends and family are all safe and at least his family and friends are all safe and not in a cage where he was so now he is with his family and friends are all safe. from Lisa K I think he should hide in cracks that a fox can't climb maybe there is a crack in the wall or he could be patient and wait for them to go away. from Lisa What I would do is dig a hole and dig a hole out and cover that hole that I made coming out and put some meat in that hole and when they're in I will cover that hole. from Tammy My solution to the problem is signal for help or find a narrow tunnel. It must be very scary. From Jordan - Laine My solution is to find a narrow tunnel or an opening or gap in the cave then he could run and climb on to a ledge where the foxes could not get me. From Christie J I think that I will hide behind a rock and maybe I could quickly run in between their legs from Chelsea . Hi. The solution to my problem is to go much deeper, and find a tunnel or climb a ledge higher than the fox can reach. from Kelly J Hi my solution is that I must hide behind the rocks. and make noises like a mouse. I will make footprints and they will come in - I will dig a hole and come out the tunnel is dig and get away . from Michele. I think you should climb or signal it must be very scary why don't you escape and climb up a very high rock and signal and run home and be with my family. from Micaela. I think it should climb up the edge and run out and signal to the other animals to come and chase away the foxes to their homes and I hope they don't come back and another way is to hide behind narrow rocks so they can't get their teeth into Walpiri. My solution is that Walpiri should hide. He should hide in a tiny crack that the fox can't reach because he's much bigger. Perhaps he could climb to the top of the cave and find a place to escape maybe an air hole. From Ceara Mc. My solutions is I think he should hide between the rocks or he could smell his way out maybe he could climb the rocks and camouflage the same colour as the rock all you can call someone for help maybe the game ranger that helped the bilby on the beach (Jackson) He can help you before the fox comes. Best wishes. We are really enjoying the book rap from the Springfield rappers. |

Charters Towers School of Distance Education * Walpiri could try digging in another part of the cave. We weren't too hopeful that he would find a suitable place to dig because caves are made of rock. * Walpiri could dig as far as he could towards the entrance of the cave without disturbing the foxes. He could than wait until the foxes are asleep and run for his life. Once he is outside he could hide in the dense vegetation along the banks of Betania Creek. Walpiri could walk in the water to disguise his tracks and scent so the foxes would not follow him. * If there were bats in the cave, Walpiri could scare
them. The bats would then fly out of the entrance and make a horrible noise, scaring
the foxes away. Although some of our ideas are dangerous we hope they help Walpiri to escape. The ideas from other schools have been very interesting . Miss Smith has been reading out some of the messages each day during our on -air lessons. Happy rapping |

St John's Richmond Hi Fellow Rappers, We came up with a few solutions to Walpiri's problem: 1. Walpiri could disguise himself. He could roll around in the pebbly soil, dig a shallow hole in the cave so his back shows. It would probably look like a greyish, blackish rock in the ground. After a while, if the foxes find him in daylight all they will see is probably a rock to their sight and they would probably smell the soil. 2. At night Walpiri could sneak out and dig a burrow and dig and dig until he gets away. 3. He could run around the cave and spread his urine and manure around the cave and hide before the foxes come in. All the foxes will smell will be urine and manure and Walpiri can run out of the cave into the thick bush as fast as he can. 4. Walpiri could call his eagle friend to come and get him from the other side of the cave. 5. Walpiri could creep out slowly, camouflaged with dirt and mud to make a new scent. If the foxes came closer he could dart around to try and leave his scent in different places, once the foxes are confused he could run off. We hope these suggestions help Walpiri get out of his predicament. Peter, Brendan and Alice |

Replies from 5.2 at Crestmead SS Dear Jackson Hi, thank you for writing back to us. When we heard that Walpiri was lost we were upset that he might die in the cave but don't worry it will be okay. We really do hope you find him soon. Here are our answers to your problem: *Walpiri should not waste time and just dig down as deep as he can and hide in the diggings until the foxes have left the cave and gone faraway. Then come up and listen around and be aware of what you hear. So listen-up and you will be fine. Hannah, Ben, James, Skye and Borbee *Here are some of our solutions- Walpiri could dig into the wall and climb but bilbies can't climb so that is rejected. Wilpiri would just have to slowly dig towards the foxes and then run as fast as he can out of the cave. Liam, Krystal, Micheal, Adel, Rebecca *If we were the bilby this is what we would have done: Find somewhere that doesn't have stones and dig. The other suggestions were- 1 Go and find the nearest hole in the cave. 2 Stay there for the night then in the morning wait out the foxes. 3 If Walpiri has been tagged the scientist could find the tag and scare the foxes away. The reason why we didn't like those was: there might not be a hole in the cave, the foxes might still be there in the morning, the bilby is probably not tagged yet. From PLEKK (our code name, the first letters of our names) Response to rap point 2 from 5.1 at Crestmead SS I am Walpiri and I would like to tell you how I escaped out of the cave. It was very difficult because at the front of the cave were two foxes, so I found a part of the wall that was rotting away and scraped a hole big enough for myself to hide in. I waited and then when it was safe I made my way out. Group 1 This is Walpiri speaking and two foxes have come into the cave and I am scared. But I have some ideas that I think will work and here they are: * escape by running through the foxes legs and biting its tail * hide in a crack in the wall * dig around the rock * hide in the darkest place of the cave I'm exhausted, I've tried nearly all of these and they didn't work. I will now run as fast as I can out of the cave and dig a very deep burrow. Group 2 Hi, we think Walpiri should hide in the cave to the left side and the fox will eventually come in and then Walpiri should bolt out and into one of the other caves. Group 3 Hi, I am Walpiri and I have thought up three escaped however two of them may not work. They are: 1 I could charge out of the cave while the foxes start looking , but if they don't start looking for me I can't 2 I could throw rocks but I don't think I can lift them 3 This one I thought might work. I could hide like a rock in the sand I hope it works Group 4 We are taking on the role of Walpiri. The best thing to do is to camouflage myself. It is still raining so my chances are high if I run like anything into a bush I might make it because the foxes will seek shelter in the cave. Therefore I'm out. Hope you like this suggestion |

| Port Lincoln Primary Our class at Port Lincoln Primary suggested seventeen different ideas including throwing rocks. Many were the same or similar solutions for Walpiri. My solutions are to break off a stalactite and drop it on the foxes or get the eagle to stick his claws into the foxes bodies. Hannah My solution is to get his eagle friend to get a baited mouse or rat and put it in front of the foxes so that they will eat the mouse or rat and get sick and the bilby will run away. Michael My suggestion was that Walpiri should rub his scent strongly at the back of the cave and not so strongly at the entrance. Then he should get some mice to make a shadow of a bilby and some other mice to make scraping noises as if Walpiri is trying to dig. While this is happening Walpiri creeps past the foxes and excapes. Lisa My solution is for Walpiri to gather up some rocks or pebbles and slide them on the ground (slippery in cave), fox slips over and rolls in to creek. Other fox still there. He gets angry, charges for bilby and slips up. Bilby moves out of way and fox hits his head on rock. Vince My solution is the eagle could come along and dig it's claws in to the foxes then the bilby could make a run for it. From your rap pal Sarah |

2) I am Walpiri. I am going to go to the end of the cave oh great. I found a huge bat. Hello Mr bat please come down here. What do you want ? Please Mr bat can I go on your back and can we fly out of the cave? K, lets go. Ooh thank you Mr bat. Love ~*~ Christie and Elizabeth ~*~ Why doesn't the bat help me to get out of the cave by flying on his back with his friends because of the foxes are at the entrance of the cave because the fox will get me . from Sarah ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ and Caroline ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ I think I should clutch my claws and climb up the walls. I would climb up to the ceiling and camouflage myself and climb out and the foxes wont see me and I will find and a hole and sleep there. from Daniella I am Walpiri. The eagle will come when I and I'll get on his back and fly away. Dear Jackson I am Walpiri. I think I should call the eagle to cause a distraction while I escape and wait for eagle to come back. Love from Elaine and Tenille *~*~*~*~*~*~*`~*~*~*~*~* To Jackson We are pretending we are Walpiri and what we would do is find two bits of wood and we would rub them together to make a fire and hopefully it will scare them away. by Julia and Kimberly. **************** Dear Jackson I would make a house out of stones and mud and wood for the roof and then I would find some leaves so the foxes would think it is a bush. When the foxes go past he can run fast and pass them. from Roxanne ~#~#~#~#~#~#~#~#~#~ Dear Jackson We think we will make a little house out of mud, stones and leaves. and at night we would creep out and run into the bush until we think of something. by Megan and Jessica Dear Jackson I am Walpiri. I think I will find some hedgehog and the hedgehog will shoot the quills at the foxes and the foxes will run a way and I can run into the bush his and I can ask the eagle if he could take me home. love Maddie. |

| Bucklands Beach Primary Dear Jackson, We think Walpiri should burrow down.If he finds rock go further in the cave and burrow until he doesen't find rock. If it has rock everywhere then RUN! Joshua Craig and Alan Dear Jackson, We think Walpiri should go right down to the back of the cave. If there is another entrance go out, if there isn't stay there.Since Walpiri has a good sence of smell he will be able to smell if the foxes are outside the cave. Also, the foxes might not be able to smell Walpiri from the entrance of the cave. from Helen, Nathanel and Monique. |
