Hello, Verdi Rappers,
We are second graders from Cartwright School in Phoenix, Arizona. Phoenix is in the Sonora Desert. We are the only desert in the world which gets two rainy seasons a year. That's why so much grows here. We have rattlesnakes, coyotes, scorpions, roadrunners, elk, deer, Gila Monsters (which aren't really monsters - they are huge lizards) and other animals in Arizona.
Not all of Arizona is desert. We also have mountains and rivers and lakes. We have places that are 1000 feet above sea level and one mountain is over 12,000 feet. In meters? About 330 m. to 3900 m. roughly. We are seven, going on eight. We haven't done a book rap before, but our teacher, Mrs. Nixon, has done several.
Our school is about 120 years old. We used to be on the corner of dirt roads and there was nothing but farms around us. Now it is a busy corner, with 6 lane roads going ways. There is a shopping area across one street. It has a McDonald's.
We have about 1100 students in kindergarten through 6th grade. That would be 12 years old. Our school was remodeled two years ago and it is very nice now. We are a National Historical Site and we have a museum. It used to be where the superintendent of the school lived. It is very small!
We haven't read the book Verdi yet. We will read it next week and be ready for the first rap point. We look forward to hearing from all of you and trading ideas.
