This is what Raymond writes about Bodhnath: "The picture attached is of Bodhnath in Kathmandu. This is the Buddhist, Sherpa and Tibetan centre of Kathmandu. Here one of the largest stupas in the world was built in the 5th century AD and is surrounded with prayer wheels which are constantly set in motion by pilgrims and locals. The circular street around it is crowded with Sherpa and Tibetan street hawkers. There are many souvenir shops and eateries where you can try Tibetan momos (steamed or fried dumplings stuffed with meat or vegetables) or thongba, millet beer. A stupa is simply a mound. Inside the mound are various bones and relics, but you have to be one of the very holy men to even think of going inside. We could walk all around it and also over the top. This picture was taken from fairly high up on the mound looking back down the staircase that we had climbed with elephant statues. In the background can be seen some of the houses of Kathmandu."
