This is what Raymond writes about the stupa: " Here one of the largest stupas in the world was built in the 5th century AD and is surrounded with prayer wheels which are constantly set in motion by pilgrims and locals. A stupa is simply a mound. Inside the mound are various bones and relics, but you have to be one of the very holy men to even think of going inside. We could walk all around it and also over the top. At ground level I took a photograph of the tower which sits on top of the circular mound. This has the two eyes that you see in Buddhist places everywhere. I think they are rather a sort of representation of "Big Brother's watching you"!, but in this case probably "Big Buddha is watching you." Prayer wheels fascinate me as a wonderfully easy way of conducting religion. They have various prayers written on them in their script, and you spin them. While they are spinning your prayers are being sent off, I suppose by a form of centrifugal force, to ascend into heaven. Much easier than having to kneel down and think up things to say. :-) :-) :o) :o)."
