KS SCIENCE DAY

On Wednesday 14th August K - 2 had a ‘Science Day’. This involved infant’s children experiencing a variety of science experiments throughout the school.

It was a very successful day and we all had lots of fun. The photos below depict the experiments that took place in KS.

The first sequence of photos shows an experiment, which demonstrates the effect of an acid indicator, (or as the children labelled it ‘Magic Rainbow Water’). We added an acid indicator (ice cubes of boiled red cabbage water) to 3 glasses: I contained lemonade, 1 had bi-carb soda and water and 1 had plain water. When we added the ice cubes each glass of liquid turned a different colour - it really was magic!

The following photos show the experiment, which produces the ‘magic balloon in the bottle’. Initially we had to heat the bottle, then put a balloon over the lip of the bottle and place it in a cold bucket of water.

We thought the balloon was going to blow up and even burst but instead we got a surprise as the balloon was sucked right into the bottle!

HOLIDAYS

The children have been working on their story writing in KS. Some children have written about their recent holidays, while others were impressed by the reptile show "Snake Tails" and have reflected on this.

Enjoy!

My Holiday

In the holidays I went to Pretty Beach with my

whole family. I loved surfing the waves. One night there was a big, windy storm with lots of rain.

My New Zealand Holiday

I went to New Zealand  and  I  flew  to  New  Zealand   and  I got  a  wastebag  on  the  plane  and  there  were  stickers  in there. My favourite part of the holiday was when we went to the beach house. I made a sandcastle and put some shells on it. We also  went  to  Crystal  mountain.  I  got  to  take  some crystals  home  and  stuck    them   in  my  scrapbook. I brought my scrapbook in to show the class.

SNAKES TAILS

On  friday the  snakes  came  to  school. We got to touch the reptiles and pat them. Some children had lizards on their shirts and on their heads. It was very funny. My favourite was the Blue Tongue Lizard.
