Economics

Why do Economics?

A text book answer telling you why Economics is a great subject would probably read something like:

Economics aims to develop knowledge of the structures, institutions and processes which together constitutes an economy - particularly the Australian economy - and of concepts central to understanding the problems which confront the nation in both economic and social terms. Students study the theoretical basis of how an economy operates and then apply this theory to practical issues in the Australian economy, e.g. Unemployment Problems, Inflation, External Problems. The effect of new technology on the economy is studied.

The reasons why many of our students choose to do Economics is because they want to be intouch and informed on what's really going on in the world.

"So who care's about inflation and the aussie dollar - it doesn't affect me!"

Many people believe that Economics is not important to them as an individual. They may be pleasantly suprised to hear that Economics not only outline the causes of unemployment, possible causes of a recession but also the reasons why the Australian dollar seems to go up and down like a yo-yo and how you can get the best foreign exchange when going on an overseas holiday.
