English, Years 7 - 10 |
Consolidating, creating, critiquing and communicating - English is certainly alive and well at Cerdon College.
The syllabus components of Reading, Writing, Speaking, Listening and Viewing are given a new lease of life through programs which are skills based, designed to meet the needs of the students and above all dynamic.
Classes are mixed ability in Year 7 and streamed in Years 8 - 10 to allow students the chance to work at their own pace.
Many of the units of work are literature based and these include texts such as People Might Hear You, Two Weeks With the Queen, Came Back To Show You I Could Fly, Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, Rift, Bridge to Wiseman's Cove, and The Chocolate War . However, students also work on oral units such as Debating in Year 7, Film study units, Poetry and Drama units.
Students also have the opportunity to apply their skills practically to co-curricular activities such as Book Expo. The 50 word Short Story competition and The Two Weeks With the Queen performance based unit in Year 8, The Shakespeare Festival in Year 9, The English Competition and participation in writing competitions.
Extra curricular activities such as Debating and Public Speaking also provide opportunities to develop the talents of those students with genuine interests in these areas - You can check these out on our extra-curricula page.
