Maths in Practice

Year 11 MIP, 1998 is an exciting class to teach. With the purpose of assessing student's skills and knowledge in the areas of Geometry and Design and the abilities to relate to young children in the process of learning Mathematics, we have already attended two excursions.

St Mary's CathedralSt Mary's Cathedral and the Botanical Gardens in Sydney followed by a visit to a child care centre. St Mary's Cathedral and the Botanical Gardens in Sydney were all sources of study and research where girls were amazed of St Mary's Cathedralthe various forms of Geometrical shapes and number patterns found either in the environment or in nature, flowers, leaves or trees.

To achieve the second aim we visited the Uniting Church Child Care Centre at Greystanes, where one more time the MIP students tried their mathematical communication skills with the young children and demonstrated the interest in the subject by presenting some very high standard of resources made for this purpose.

These are just some of the encounters of Mathematics in real life that students of the course will be experiencing during the year.

The pictures above show some of these amazing findings.
