Frequently Asked Questions

These questions were asked by our students and members of staff. We hope it provides helpful to other members of our school community and the general reader.

1. How do I return to your Home Page from within your Web Site?

There are several ways to return to our Home Page. Alternatively, there may be an option at the bottom of the page to return to the Home Page.

2. How do I search the Internet from your Site?

Click Search the Web from the Site Index, or simply click the Search button on the front page of our site. This will take you to our page containing several different search engines. Click on your favourite search engine and you will be taken to that search engine on the Internet. You will also see a drop-down list entitled Quick Search! on our Home Page. Select the Search Engine you want from this list.

3. How do I find information about a particular subject that is offered at our school?

Click School Curriculum and you will be taken to a page entitled Our School Curriculum which lists all subjects offered by our school. Those subjects that have information are underlined. Click on the underlined subject of your choice and the information will appear on the screen.

4. How do I select one of the Internet links for my subject?

All subject-specific links to sites on the Internet are located in the section entitled Web Sites. Click on the link Web Sites in the Site Index and you will be taken to a page entitled Cerdon College Web Sites listing the following links:

Subject Links Australian Government Museums Newspapers
On-Line Encyclopedias On-Line Magazines On-Line Newspapers State Libraries
Teacher Links Universities

On this page you will also find a list of Quick Reference Sites. Alternatively, you can select Web Sites from the drop-down list entitled Quick Site Links on our Home Page

To access a subject-specific link, click Subject Links. You will be provided with a list of our subjects in alphabetical order. Select the subject that you require from the on-screen list. You will be taken to a list of sites for that subject. By clicking on these links, you will be accessing the Internet. As a result, our Site Index on the left will disappear and you will have access to the full width of the screen.

5. How do I return to the School Web Site when I am surfing the ‘Net at school?

This question is only applicable if you are accessing the Internet from our school computers.

Click the Home Button on Netscape Navigator or continually press the Back Button which will move you through the previous page(s) that you have read.

6. Where will I find examples of Student Work?

From the Site Index, click on Student Work.

7. Where will I find Student Home Pages?

From the Site Index, click on Student Work. From this screen, click on View Student Home Pages.

8. I have an Internet address. How do I enter it in order to view the site?

Hold down the Control Key (abbreviated Ctrl) and press the letter O at the same time. A dialogue box will appear on the screen. Simply enter the address into the dialogue box and press enter.

9. How do I access my HotMail e-mail account?

You can access HotMail from within the school website. Click Search the Web from the Site Index. At the top of the screen you will see an option for selecting HotMail. Alternatively, you can access HotMail in the following way: Press Ctrl-O (see above question). Type the following in the dialogue box that pops up: www.hotmail.com and press enter. You will be taken straight to HotMail’s Web Site.

10. Why are the photos so small?

The more graphics, animations and images that appear on a Web Site, the slower it becomes when it is downloaded from the Internet into a user’s computer. In an effort to speed up the delivery of our site across the Internet, irrelevant images, background images and graphics have been left out. The reduced photographs included in our site helps make our site load quicker. If you wish to see an enlargement of the photo, simply click on it and a larger photo will be downloaded for you (depending on the speed of the connection and the modem, this could take some time). To return to the page you came from, click the Back Button on the Netscape Navigator toolbar.

11. How do I return to the previous screen/page that I was reading?

You simply click the Back Button from Netscape Navigator’s tool bar. You will also find that at the bottom of each page of our site there is a link taking you back to either the home page or the previous section of our site that you came from.

12. I selected one of the subject links in our Web Site and I received an error message saying that it does not exist anymore. What do I do?

Tell either Mrs Hoeflake in the Library or Mr Wonson. If you click on one of the links in our Web Page and it leads you ‘nowhere’ on the Internet or you receive an error message, it means that either the site has moved or the link has been entered into our site incorrectly. If you notify us we will check our entry in the Site and amend it accordingly. With your help in this area, we can keep our Web Site up to date.

13. I accessed your Web Page and it says "Good Morning" at 3.00pm in the afternoon! Why?

Check the clock in your computer. It must be too slow/fast!

14. I tried to access your Newsletter and Enrolment Forms but have difficulty viewing them. Why?

In order to view these two documents, you need to have installed on your computer Version 3.01 of Adobe Acrobat Reader. It is freely available from Adobe. Please download it and install it on your computer and you will be able to view the Enrolment Forms and Newsletter.

15. Why don't you implement an electronic version of the Enrolment Forms rather than having me print a copy from the Internet?

Our Enrolment Forms require a signature from parents and a Parish Priest. Besides, having an electronic form encourages some users to fill it in with bogus information and electronically send it to us.
