The Latest News from Cerdon College |
It had been raining for most of August, Sydney had been flooding, our water was undrinkable and school seem never-ending. What was there to look forward to?
44 students, 4 teachers and the junk food aisle from Woolworths boarded the coach with anticipation that there would be snow, no rain and no broken limbs - and a chance to take photos of the cute bus driver!!
There were ski/snowbaord lessons for those who had never seen snow before, at Smiggins. The beginners spent the weekend learning how to snow plough and master falling over (Miss Buljan!) and to avoid creeks and trees. For the more adventurous there were the slopes at Perisher, Blue Cow and the infamous black runs. (We can still hear Monique's screams as she slid down Olympic!)
At night the students challenged the teachers to a game of pool. After 2 hours the students thought they beat the teachers 2 games to 1, with no help from Bruce or Belinda!
To the joy of the teachers - the exercise and sun took their toll - most of the group were in bed (asleep?) by 10:30pm.
The ski trip was everything we had waited and saved for. Snow, drinkable water, cute guys and embarrassing moments at McDonalds. Apart from bruises, sore muscles and sunburn, a fantastic weekend was had by all. Now we have to wait until next year - or will we save up and ski in Canada with the horses at Christmas? Yes!!
Chavoin Day is an annual tradition at Cerdon College. It is a day in which the school community gathers together to honour and celebrate our history as a Marist school. Jeanne Marie Chavoin, the foundress of the Marist sisters, is the reason why the day is named Chavoin Day.
The day always commences with a wonderfully inspiring celebration of the Eucharist, bringing the school together to pray and and enjoy each other's company. This is usually followed by lunch and some entertainment thoughout the day, including teachers participating in talent shows, live band performances and sporting activities.
Chavoin Day 1996 saw the whole school listening to the staff rock band while 1997 Chavoin Day, we were entertained by the rock band The Enormous Horns. Chavoin Day has always been a fun way to end Term Two, the half way point of our school year.
Every year donations to help support various people in need are made. In previous years we have helped the poor in Mexico and the Saint Vincent De Paul Society.
Chavoin Day Is always an exciting and memerable one.
Open Day 1998 is an opportunity for the parents of our daughters and the local community to visit the school and view displays of student work. We also welcome to Cerdon College those parents of Year 6 students of our local Primary Schools who are considering our school for their daughters next year.
Tour the School!Tours have been arranged for all visitors. These tours will be occurring every 15 minutes and will be led by our Year 11 Prefects. On this tour you can view the library facilities and access the software that we have on the CD-ROM network and for those new to the Internet, an opportunity will be given for you to surf the 'net. Recently the school upgraded all of its computers. The two computer rooms and its resources can also be seen on this tour. The facilities of the Technology block where our students particpate in Design & Technology and Food Technology courses can also be seen on the school tour. Examples of student work can be viewed in any of the classrooms that have been set up for viewing and musical and dramatic items can be displayed in Chavoin Hall.
This year Open Day begins at 11.00am and concludes at 2.00pm.
If you are interested in what Cerdon College has to offer its students, please come along and tour our facilities and resources. Members of the school staff will be available throughout the day to answer any of your questions.
