Subject Outline

Media Studies is a technology-based subject, and aims to develop students' competence with a range of technical equipment and computer programs. Students learn to make videos, radio programs, web sites, magazines, newspapers and take photos.

Media Studies encourages students to work in teams and to take a hand in producing the school promotional video and the school community newspaper, the Corrimal Chronicle. In doing this they learn to use a range of software programs such as Pagemaker, Claris Homepage, Photoshop and Powerpoint.

Throughout Year 9 and 10 students enhance their communication skills and develop self-confidence by reporting and interviewing. They learn to evaluate their own and others' work effectively.

Students gain an understanding of issues of control and influence of the media, as well as becoming more astute film and television viewers by learning about a range of genres and conventions.
