2 Unit Society and Culture aims to help students become socially literate. There are 5 key concepts: the individual, society, culture, environment and time. Through an understanding of each of these, students develop a greater understanding of themselves, their own culture as well as other societies and cultures and times.

They learn a number of valuable skills such as social research. When the students are in Year 12, they have to submit a Personal Interest Project which counts for 30% of their final mark. In it they must demonstrate that they have read widely, designed questionnaires, conducted interviews and explained their findings in just
4,000 words! Many university students say that this part of the course gave them the best preparation of all for demands of university. Other students say that their PIP opened vocational doors for them.
