SCIENCE NEWS

a Visit from Bob Withey of Australian Reptile Displays

Recently, all year 9 science classes went to see a reptile show in the school labs. We were shown various snakes ranging from deadly to non-poisonous, such as the fierce snake and the olive python.

We held the python, which is 3 metres long, probably because it is harmless. Some students touched a bearded dragon, blue tongue lizards and a turtle. There was also a death adder on display. Mr Withey tells really interesting stories, such as the one about a 14 year old boy who lived in the Philippines and didn't come home for tea one night. Some of the locals saw a reticulated python (10 metres long, weighing 500 kg!) which a huge lump in its stomach. They hit on the head and slit it open and out popped the boy....DEAD!

We heard about why blue tongues only eat snails &emdash; because that's all they can catch up to in the garden!
