THE DAPTO BATS
- DHS CANOE POLO TEAM
needs your support
Please contact Mr. Wilson by
email
| We are seeking community and/or corporate support to purchase spray decks, quality paddles and helmets so that we can become even more competitive in local and state-wide events. The team is officially known as the "Dapto Bats". We have our own team shirts which we proudly wear when going into battle in this great sport. |
HISTORY:
We began training in the sport in Term 3 2004, and
competed in the Kangaroo Valley Canoe Club's annual "Mudcake Challenge"
on November 6, 2004. We also competed in the inaugural Burley
Griffin Canoe Club "Cheesecake Challenge" on March 5, 2005 at
Queanbeyan, coming second in the round robin B-grade division against the
undefeated Dags, a team from Kangaroo Valley Canoe Club. We have competed
in several competitions in NSW and the ACT since then.
In November 2004 we raised funds through a PADDLE-A-THON on Lake Illawarra to purchase 3 Dagger Vampires, and purchased one more in February 2005. Due to the high cost of purchasing these craft, I have since been making fibreglass kayaks to build the rest of the fleet. Seawind Catamarans very generously donated some of the fibreglass we needed to make our kayaks, meaning that the materials cost for each boat was approximately $250. I am pleased to announce that we now have or full fleet of 16 polo kayaks! We still need extra funds to purchase more of the following:
spray decks ($120 each)
paddles ($450 each)
helmets with face guards ($60 each - we make our own guards).
If you can contribute to the growth of this great sport in our school, please contact myself (Mr. Wilson) or our principal Mr. FitzSimons at the school. Phone 4261 1416
