Around the world Australian children's literature illustrations are considered very highly.
 
The illustrators use a wide range of skills and techniques which are well worth studying. Each year outstanding books are chosen for the CBCA Picture Book of the Year awards. For the illustrations the judges consider the aesthetic appeal, the colour, line, shape, texture, the effective use of media and technique and the artistic style and graphic excellence.
