Use Overview
Our school has a simple view of the degree of computer use for each classroom. Teachers need to meet the brief requirements in the school's scope and sequence for their grade level, but these skills should be taught in the context of Key Learning Areas. Otherwise, computers are used as any other resource - to enhance the quality of teaching/learning where the teacher feels it is most appropriate. To emphasise the constructivist pedagogy, each teacher is required to use the computer at least once a term for their unit of work, possibly for web quests or on-line projects. See what our teachers are doing this year. Our Web Page Our school web page is another one of our public faces and therefore needs to be tightly controlled and supervised. The great majority of student work is published on our intranet, where we are less concerned about privacy issues and appropriateness of content. Our internet site is different in the fact that it is available to the general public and needs to reflect the standard of our whole school. Our policy, Standards for the school web site describes the processes that must be used to publish information to the internet. Making School Web Pages A self-guided tutorial (Word document) can be downloaded and used to help your school develop its web presence).
Minimum Standards - Learning Technology All teachers in our school will have minimum standards by term 3, 2000. Although many teachers are choosing to work beyond minimum standards, some teachers feel comfortable remaining on that level. Our school acknowledges that different teachers will have different strengths. We have a 1 year plan, that covers a wide variety of teaching styles and personalities. Download it Teacher Reference This document is given to all teachers, building awareness of the roles and responsibilities of computer use. It also outlines the school procedures of taking computers home, buying software etc... Download it Software Register Our school has decided that keeping proper records of our software is a lot easier than facing the consequences of possible copyright infringement. It also sets a good example to students. ALL software is recorded in our SOFTWARE REGISTER Like most other schools, we faced a major dilemma about how to effectively and realistically teach and assess computer skills, while remaining focused on the required Key Learning Areas. Download our Scope and Sequence Policy to see how we managed this issue. Student Record Keeping Each student has a single card that remains in their school file. Teaches use this to indicate the skills of each child and to list the internet projects the child has participated in. Download it Buying Software and Hardware Our school has general guidelines for the purchasing of hardware/software. Download them Managing our Network Although teachers do not engage in the technical side of managing our Windows NT network, they are consulted as to how the network should be set up and where their files etc should be stored. This document was used to initiate discussion on that topic.
