Resource SS is very concerned about the future use of the computer skills we teach students.  We don't want our students to become hackers or bomb makers using the resources from our school.  We also want the students to be able to make decisions about computer use when they are not at school and become exposed to the wide variety of material on the internet.  Our school has adopted an Ethical Education Package.  This is a brief document listing activities for each grade level to develop appropriate attitudes to computer use.

Permission to use the internet
Before each student is allowed to access anything on the internet other than ED QLD sites, they must have a user agreement form completed, with their parents also signing the form.  Our form is from the DOEM.  Each time to form is changed, students and parents must sign the new form.  Download the file

Email Use

All incoming and outgoing student email needs to go though the class teacher.  Students in the upper school may have their own email addresses, but the return address for each account must be listed as the teacher.

Students may use their own email account with reduced supervision if:

  • The messages are always available for teacher viewing
  • They use official school accounts (free email services are convenient, but are unable to be traced)
  • The conversation is between students of the same school, or another ED QLD school
  • The students are writing to another class/individual that has existing links with the school
  • Private messages are restricted to home computer use

Personal Use of Computers

  • Students may not use computers outside of school hours (including lunchtime) for free 'surfing'.  This access can be arranged at a local council library.
