LACHLAN MACQUARIE

The Three Sisters in the
Blue Mountains.

Lachlan Macquarie helped Australia by making people move further to the Blue Mountains and Bathurst. As well, while he was in Australia he made coinage. Before that rum had been the currency used.

Macquarie was very interested in building - he built these buildings while he was governor and some of them are still standing this very day - Conservatorium of music, State Parliament House and St James' Cathedral.

Jane Jervis was Macquarie's 1st wife. Elizabeth Campbell was Macquarie's 2nd wife. Macquarie was born on the Island Ulva, Scotland on January the 31st 1762. At the age of 15 he joined the British army. He was made Governor of New South Wales in 1809 after William Bligh.
