Canoes

Canoes are made of kinds of bark like the Eucalypt tree, the Giant Red River Gum, the Mountain Ash, the Box tree, the Bluegum and the Stringy Bark. They are used for catching fish and other sea creatures in deep water. The children and men use them and the men make them.

It is used by paddling on the water with oars. With the bark to make the canoe, they got pieces about 3 - 5 metres long and about 1-2 metres wide. 10 to 12 men had to work together to make a canoe.

The ends were pulled tightly into shape with strips of kangaroo hide. Clay was also used at both ends to prevent water entering.
