* The largest city is Port Elizabeth. (*see corrections in email below)

The population of South Africa is forty-one million people.

* South African languages are Afrikaans and English. (*see corrections in email below)

* Here is an email from our friends in South Africa :

Cape Town is known as the Mother City. Pretoria and Cape Town share the seat of government. Parliament is in Cape Town.

Johannesburg is the biggest city.

There are 11 official languages. English, Afrikaans and 9 languages that the black people speak. In the Cape where I live the majority of the black people speak Xhosa.

Our children learn to speak Xhosa in school from Grade 1. They also learn Afrikaans.

Afrikaans is very like Dutch as the first colonists who came here were from the Netherlands. Later the British came and they introduced English.

From Encarta we heard South African music.

From Internet we learned that kids in South Africa like roller blading.
