The Parrot Fish.

Parrot fishes are one of many of the largest fish and the most bright and full of colour out of all the tropical reef fishes. They come in all different blues, greens, reds, yellows, pinks and even some purples characterizing males more so than females.

Their strong parrotlike beaks are used to scrape algae and living coral from the subtrate causing reef erosion but during that same time that the fish is scraping the algae and destroying the coral it is producing sand which is ecologically important to the reef.

All parrot fish return to their rock caves at night to rest.
