The onion comes from the lily family.

Long green leaves like stems grow out of the onion.

This plant is native to Asia but is cultivated in temperate and subtropical places.

This vegetable has one component which readily dissolves in water and can make your eyes water.

We eat the bulb in things like spaghetti bolognaise.
