Sugar

What I already know about sugar: Sugar comes from sugar cane. It grows three or two metres high. It grows in humid areas.  In Australia it grows mostly in Queensland.

 What I learned :

• Sugar was first grown in New Guinea as a wild plant.

• In Australia sugar cane is planted in Autumn in the north of eastern Australia.

• The cane is burnt to get the leaves off.

• Sugar cane is cut in June and December.

• A cane train pulls it to the mill.

• The mill crushes the cane through rollers.

• The sugar is dried and stored in big bins until it is taken from the mill.

• It goes to a refinery to get turned into white sugar.
