 Honey Pot Ant

This picture came from Encarta.

Honey pot ants store honey dew in their distended crops for use when it is not available in their habitat.

They are adapted to Australia's arid areas where rainfall is unpredictable.

Honey pot ants also provided food for Aboriginals - the honey dew was squeezed from their crops and was eaten.

CROPS : the crops are a storage place for the honeydew which the workers collect.

Honey Ants have a few enemies such as lizards and lack of appropriate environment but their greatest enemies are humans.
