  The Wasp

The Wasp is a big problem in Australia.

It appears with black and yellow stripes on its back.

If you see one, don't touch it or bother it for it has a painful bite. Dogs and cats are bitten a lot by the wasp.

Characteristics

There are a lot of different varieties of wasps, with widely differing habits and structural characteristics. They may be divided into the social wasps and the solitary wasps. Among the former are the hornets, the yellow jackets, and the large, red-brown wasps known as the paper wasps. They live in bunches consisting of males, females, and sterile workers. The solitary wasps, including the mud daubers, potter wasps, and digger wasps, produce no workers and build individual nests.

Zachary-

I enjoyed learning about Insects from the webpages you and your classmates have created. I especially enjoyed your webpage on wasps.
You mentioned they are a big problem in Australia. Have you, or anyone you know, had problems with wasps?
I've been bitten by wasps.

Dear Mr Persinger,
Thank You for the e-mail.
Yes, some of us have had encounters with wasps. I'll share a few. I was stung around the neck six times by bunch of European Wasps. One of my classmates, Amy, said her brother was walking home from school with a drink. He was stung by a wasp on the eyelid. Maybe the drink attracted the wasp.
Another of my classmate's Dad's arm brushed against a bush and a wasp's stinger was on his arm and he moved, causing the stinger to scrape across his arm, leaving a trail of blood. Ow!
Once on the news, a boy was stung by 200 wasps and he only just survived. On the news, he looked all swollen up and he could not open his eyes or mouth because he was so swollen up!
Ouch!!! Anyway, nice to talk to you. Hope we stay in touch. It would be great to hear from you. Bye!

From your friend,
Zachary
