Homebush Bay

It all started when we got an invitation to go to Homebush Bay. It said,"Bring $5.00 back to school and a permission note".

Only twenty six schools were chosen from the whole of Sydney to go and we were only one of them.

On the 24th of June 1998 the whole of 6th grade from Elanora Hts P.S lined up at the top of the track. When the bus finally came we all clomped on. It was about an hour until we got to Homebush Bay.

We drove for about 15 minutes until we got to the visitor's centre. We got to watch a video about Homebush Bay. Then we went on a walk. We saw the giant sundial - it wasn't working well because it was raining. Next we went on the Mangrove walk.

Did you know that the Mangrove's roots are like little snorkels because they stick out of the ground to get air?

After that we went back on the bus for recess.

When recess was finished we went to the hall of fame, where we saw Cathy Freeman's shoes. She ran 500m in 50.46 seconds in these shoes.

We also saw Mark Ella's Rugby boots and also saw his 1984 Australian Blazer jacket. After the hall of fame we went through a door and entered into the hockey stadium where we saw a school practising hockey. We left the hockey stadium and the hall of fame and got into the bus.

Then we went to the Athletics stadium, where we had lunch. At the stadium we saw Australia's best javelin thrower Andrew Currey.

After that we went home where we met our parents.
