 George Houston Reid

George was born on the 25 Febuary 1845 in Scotland.He came to Australia when he was 7 and was educated at Scotch college, Melbourne. He became a barrister in 1879 .

Mr Reid was the premier of New South Wales from 1894 to 1899. After winning a seat in the house of Representitives leading the Free Trade party in opposition.

After Watson's Goverment resigned in 1904, Reid became the Prime Minister of a coalition Government made up of the Liberal and the Free Trade party.

Reid was only Prime Minister for 10 months.He was a heavy drinker and eater and very few of his colleges trusted him.

During his time as Prime Minister, George Reid made the concilation and Arbitration bill became law.He was also Australia's first high Commisioner in London for 6 years.He did his job well and held his position for a continous six years.

Reid had 2 sons and a daughter.He died in England on the 12th of September 1918 at the age of 70.
