Snowy Mountains Hydro-electric Scheme

It was constructed to provided supplementary power to the ACT, NSW and VIC. It was officially opened by Sir Paul Hasluck, governor general of Australia, and it began generating electricity in 1955. It produces 3740000 kilowatts of electricity of which NSW is entitled to two thirds.

It started in 1955 and by 1980 it had earned 700 million dollars. The Hydro-electricity Scheme has 800 kilometres of aqueducts, 7 large power stations, 2 pumping stations, 16 large dams and 137kilometres of tunnel.
