In 1773 captain James Cook discovered the Cook Islands and originally named them Hervey Islands. Since 1965 the islands have been self governed.

The people that live on the Cook Islands are polynesians.The Cook Islands make and export coconuts, fruits, copra, clothing, shells and handcrafts.

There are 14 Islands are Rarotonga,Aitutaki, Atiu, Mangaia, Mauke, Mitiaro, Manuae, Takutea, Pukapuka, Tongareva, Manihiki, Palmerston, Rakahanga, Suwarrow and Nassav.
