 Wallis and Futuna Islands

The Wallis group of Islands contains one main island and 20 smaller islands whereas the Futuna group contains just two islands one of which is surrounded with reefs.

The capital of this territory is Mata Utu on Wallis Island. Wallis Island has about 10,000 people and Futuna has about 5,000.

The people are all French citizens and elect a representative to go to the French National Assembly.

French Roman Catholic missions were established in the islands in 1837 and the people were converted to Christianity.
