Malurus cyaneus

Superb Blue Wren

DESCRIPTION:

Malurus cyaneus or Superb Blue Wren is a very small bird growing from 13-15cm long. The male has a bright blue plumage on his head while the female is a dull greeny brown.

HABITAT:

The Superb Blue Wren lives in a very small shrubby area, near the beach in thick forests or in wetlands. There is one place I have seen a Superb Blue Wren. I have seen a Superb Blue Wren in its own habitat. It was at a Copacabana Beach, in thick scrub.

Superb Blue Wren

Hi I'm a Superb Blue Wren and my name is Cornelius. As you can see I have a beautiful plumage on my head. My wife isn't here at the moment - her name is Cecilia. She isn't very attractive although she has lovely legs. She is also a dull greeny brown. We like tight and squashed shrubby areas in forests, woodlands, wetlands and beaches. We live mainly down the South East coast of Australia. A great delicacy for us is grasshoppers especially their legs! Mmm Mmm!

DISTRIBUTION:

The Superb Blue Wren lives from the south eastern corner of Queensland, right down the east coast of N.S.W,and into the whole of Victoria. They live in groups of 16-20 birds at a time.

INTERESTING FACTS:

The Superb Blue Wren eats many small insects. A great delicacy for the wren is grasshoppers.
