Miss Cunningham's R13 Sea Horses
Does anyone know how sea snakes breathe under water?
We would like to learn more about the water cycle.
We would really like to know if any one has been deep sea diving or scuba diving? Tell us about it please!
We have learnt about an octopus and we are going to eat some next week. We want to remind people that it is hatching season for Blue Ringed Octopus and they should be careful at rockpools, because Blue Ringed octopuses are dangerous.
We hope you have nice days at your school. Please write soon.

Sea Dragons
Sea Dragons are very rare. They can camouflage themselves. When they camouflage themselves they look like seaweed. Sea Dragons are related to Sea Horses.

Sharks
Most sharks are small and not dangerous to people. Tiger sharks eat big fish. The biggest sharks are called whale sharks. Sharks are not mammals. Sharks are fish. They live in the ocean and breath with their gills. They have fins and a tail.

Stingray
Rays are related to sharks because they have cartilage instead of skeletons. Rays have a flat body with side fins. They don't have teeth like sharks, instead they have grinding plates to crush their food. Their tails can be used like whips and there is a barb halfway along it. Some spines are as long as a bread knife and can go right through your arm. By Priya.

Stonefish
Stonefish live in the Indian and Pacific Oceans. They grow to about 35cm long. Stonefish are very poisonous. Stonefish are very hard to see. They can disguise themselves with the coral. When a fish swims near their mouth they will eat it up.

Dolphins
Dolphins live in the ocean. They eat little fish and big fish. The dolphin is a mammal not a fish. They use sound waves to catch fish and to help them dodge carefully when they find a hindrance. They can swim very fast. Dolphins can swim as fast as a car. They can swim over 60 km per hour.

Turtles
The turtle is the only reptile that has a shell. Most kinds of turtles can pull their head, legs and tail into their shell, which serve as a suit of armour. Back boned animals do not have this excellent protection. Most turtles are not owned as pets. Their shell is very hard but delicate. There were some types of turtles that lived with the dinosaurs.

Seahorses
The seahorse is a type of pipe fish that lives in the deep coral reef.  It is the only fish that does not have scales.  It is so stiff and bony that it cannot bend its body.  The seahorse can change its body colour for camouflage.  This protects it from danger.  Seahorses can grow from 4 to 30cm long.  The seahorse's eyes can look in opposite directions so that it does not need to move to find food.  The seahorse sucks up shellfish through its nose.  The mother lays eggs in the father's pouch, and he looks after them until they hatch.  The babies swim straight away and they swim upright.  They hook their tail onto seaweed so that they don't get swept away by the water.  The seahorse is a very unusual fish.

We have been looking at whales. Here are some facts about them.
There are two types of whales - Baleen and Toothed.
A Baleen whale looks like he has bristles in his mouth.
Toothed whales have very sharp teeth.
We have been reading the book "Whale watching" by Josephine Croser, who is a South Australian author.
Hello to all our friends in Ms Rents' and Miss Cunningham's classes. Until next time,Miss Cob's R/Yr1

We think the Porcupine Fish is pretty special because it protects itself by swallowing water and blowing themselves up like a beach ball.
Some can swell up to four times their
normal size. Some are covered with spikes. Can you imagine anyone eating them ?
There are about 90 species living in warm waters
throughout the world. Keep away from them- some are poisonous.
