Classification: There are nine species of funnel web spider, all belonging to the family of arachnids.
Description: The funnel web spider is extremely venomous. The male is 20mm long and the female is 30mm long. It has poisonous fangs. It has eight eyes in two rows of four. The web is shaped like a funnel.
Place and Time: It is only found in Australia on the south coast of Queensland, NSW, Victoria and Tasmania.
Dynamics: They get into shoes and clothes when they are left lying on the ground. They eat snails, frogs, insects, other spiders and even lizards. They can kill humans and large animals. They always dig burrows and retreat when threatened. They stand upon their hind legs and pound down to kill. They also crush their prey and suck up the liquid.
Summarising Comment: You would be wise to shake your clothes and shoes out if you are camping in dry lands. If you see one run away from it and tell your parents.
