THE YELLOW BELLY SEA SNAKE

The yellow belly sea snake is a carnivore.

It has a flat tail to help it swim.

It can be caught with a net and sold to zoos.

Its fangs are small but can inject a toxic venom into the skin.

Its normal length is less than one metre.

The yellow belly sea snake has been mistaken for eels.

They belong to the hydrophilidae.

They are common in the warm tropical seas of Northern Australia where they are often sighted by skin divers and fishermen.
