Old Sydney Town
by Mohumad 6B
On Wednesday 5th of May 1999 6B, 5/6W and 5R went by bus to Old Sydney Town. The bus drive took abour an hour and a half.

When we first arrived we sat down and had recess. Some people took photos of model ships and people were playing on the wooden ships and monkey bars.

After recess we went through a time tunnel and saw how the convicts lived on board ships while they were being transported.

Then at the end of the tunnel we entered New Holland and we saw two soldiers who showed us how they fixed their muskets. After that wee went to watch the raising of the British flag but someone had stolen it.

They they called up a convict and the sergeant said that he was going through his files this morning and found that he had tried to escape nine times. Then the convict screamed out, "Wrong! It was ten times." Then the seargent said, "Really? Ok, men take this prisoner to get flogged." The soldiers laughed and danced and became very excited.

First of all they took off his shirt, tied up his hands and gave him ten lashes with the cat o' nine tails. But it was all fake. You could tell because the ends of the whip were hitting the wood next to him and the whip was soaked in red dye. When it did hit him the dye ran down his back.

Then we went to the souvenier cottages. There were about four of them but they were expensive.

Then we went to watch the arrest of a woman in her little house. The soldiers were shooting at it to make her come out. Then she handed one of the soldiers a bomb but he threw it back and blew up a barrel of water. Then they went in, grabbed her and brought her out.

Then some of us had a ride in a carriage up to the time tunnel but the others had to walk there.

Then we went on a tour. Out tour guide was Thomas Taber who took us to the grave yard and showed us the grave diggers's hut. Then he took us to the church. I had to chose a wife. I had to carry a handkerchief over my nose so I couldn't smell their odour. I had to drop the handkerchief at the feet of the one I chose. After that he took us to the windmill. He let us walk to the top to see how it span around. After that he took us to the dungeon room and showed us what they did to theives and what they did to female prisoners. After that he took us to see where they stored their rum.

Then we had lunch and watched them fire cannons.

Then some of us had a donkey ride for $1 which was fun.

After the donkey rides we went to the school house. The headmasters name was Mr Thomas Taber. I got sent outside in the first two minutes so I don't know what happened in there.

After that we went back up to the entrance to buy souveniers and lollies. Then we went back on the bus to go home.
