Old Sydney Town
by Henry 6B
On 5th May 1999, the students and teachers of 5R, 5/6W and 6B went to Old Sydney Town for an excursion because we are learning about the British Colonisation of Australia. We went there by a 53 seat bus. We departed at 08:30 and arrived at 10:00. it took one and a half hours to get there.

On arrival we had recess. After that, we saw a whipping re-enactment. A soldier whipped a convict with a cat o' nine tails. There was some red paint on the whip. They wanted us to think it was real blood. At the musket show there were four soldiers and an armed convict in a building. After a short time a gunfight started. I was very curious about it.

Next it was our turn to go on the tour. We first visited a cemetry. Then we went to a roofless church nearby. At the church the tour guide showed us how men in those times found wives. After we went to a windmill. The tour guide told us that's where people in those times ground their flour. Later we went to a building called a bond store. That's where people stored their food and in the bond store people made barrels too. Last in the tour we went into a well built building with a jail and a courthouse. In the jail the tour guide showed us several punishments.

We had lunch afterwards. When we finished our lunch we saw a cannon show. When the cannon fired it made an extremely loud noise. Lastly we went to the schoolhouse. The teacher was very strict and it was very realistic. After that we took a long walk back to the entrance. Then we went home.

It was the best class excusion I've ever had! It was great.
