| Jehan's Cyclone Story | |

| One morning I was watching the news with my family. On the news they said, "There is a cyclone heading this way." So we tried to get ready. We put everything that was outside inside, except the car. The cyclone was expected to bring maximum wind gusts of 290 km/h near it's centre, causing waves of up to six metres on the coast, along with flash flooding and widespread heavy rain. |
| We packed everything and got into a small room, that meant our toilet! We hopped into our sleeping bags and stayed calm. The eye of the cyclone was close by. Then the cyclone passed. It was really bad. We were all scared but we stayed calm. All the windows broke. The wind was really strong. We were freezing cold. |
| After the cyclone had gone we rang on the mobile phone and we said that there is a terrible flood rising higher and higher. When we finished ringing we sat on the roof and waited for the helicopter. Then we saw it. They were just in time. We were saved and I was very happy. Everything in my home was soaked by the flood. We had to go to the closest place we could and that was Karratha, 200 kilometres away. It was the worst cyclone. It wasn't like Cyclone Tracey - it was worse. I was not very happy. |
