Tornado
|
A tornado is a powerful, twisting windstorm. The winds of a tornado are the
most violent winds that occur on the earth. Its violent winds can destroy
buildings, uproot huge trees and carry automobiles and other large objects
long distances. Most tornados last less than an hour. These storms travel a
distance of about 32 kilometers at a speed of 16 to 40 kilometers per hour.

Earthquake
|
Earthquakes can destroy buildings, roads and other structures. Such damage
may result from changes in the level of the ground that sometimes occurs
during an earthquake. The largest earthquakes are commonly measured using
figures called strain energy magnitudes.

Flood
|
Flood waters can cause great damage. They have often destroyed entire
communities. Floods that occur in the spring often result from melting snow
and heavy rains, which combine to raise the level of rivers above their banks.
