One morning, my family were listening to the radio. Suddenly the forecaster
cried, "Cyclone! Cyclone Vance is on the way!"
Almost immediately we started to pack up. We put on warm clothes and took almost everything we own. We got in the car and took off to a shelter in another town. We got there just a few minutes before the cyclone came. The lucky thing was that the shelter was on a hill which the flood won't reach. |
| The windows were taped up to avoid being smashed. Outside, the cyclone was worse than ever! The wind was roaring and howling like crazy. The rain was pouring outside. It was very lucky that we had cans of tinned food and sleeping bags and cots. There was also fresh water to drink. Soon it was time to go to sleep. |
| Next morning we woke up. The cyclone had died down so we decided to go back home. The streets were flooded so much that the water came up to my knees. It took a while to clean everything up. When we finished there was still stuff everywhere so we called other people up to help us. |
| Next time we have a cyclone we will be prepared, always alert to every strong wind. |
