FROG PONDS
The school has several frog ponds
to encourage the native species to return and breed in the
school grounds.
These ponds are positioned in
areas that have been difficult to maintain and develop such
as under the exterior stairs that lead to a second floor
classroom.
These ponds utilize the excess
water from the drinking facilities to keep the water levels
at an appropriate level.
Excess water overflows from the
ponds into a bog garden which provides a suitable habitat
for the frogs when not in the pond.
Several species of frogs have now
successfully bred in the ponds.
