History of the Mooloolah State School Rainforest

Stage 1....1988

The beginning

Mooloolah State School's Long-term Bicentennial Project

1989

Stage 1

Bottom of the gully

In June 1989, Mooloolah State School won a World Environment Day award for $500 for their efforts in beginning the rainforest project. The plan was to plant 400 square metres every year for 15 to 20 years so students can learn about the function of trees in the environment.

-Darcey & Jason, Yr 5, 1999

1989 ..... Stage 2

Clearing pine trees and blady grass

1990

Stage 3: On the right of the photograph we see an eroded, barren gully and on the left we see where the new plants are really starting to take off.

-Grace & Telcha, Yr 5, 1999

1991

Here Mr. Joseph and Katie are planting Stage 4. All the plants in the background are growing quickly and are now taller than most students.

-Grace & Telcha, Yr 5, 1999

1992...Stage 5

This is Stage 5 and the weeds are a big problem, so everyone needs to be involved to help clear them. Years 4,5,6 and 7 were all part of the project in September 1992.

-Daniel & Brooke, Yr 5, 1999

1993

Look at all this shade! Students are planning a "Tree Walk" as part of the School Centenary. 45 trees were identified and labelled for this event planned for next year, 1994.

-Daniel & Brooke, Yr 5, 1999

1994 Local Wildlife Artists, Peta Boyce and Jane Allen, painted a rainforest mural in the covered play area to celebrate the centenary of Mooloolah State School.
