| The Planting Process Holes. When it rains the water runs down a hill and it will not soak the plant unless you make a flat surface on the side of the hill where you want the palnt to grow. The hole should be deeper than the pot. Put in a good dark soil and then the hole is ready for planting. -Larissa & Sarah B, Yr 5, 1999 |

| Visit more animals on the forest floor. | |
| Planting. You take the plant out of the green house or wherever it is. Then put your fingers between the stem and pull. After that, if it is root bound, pull all the roots apart so that they are all loose. Put it in a hole that you would have already dug and fill it with good soil. You must water the plant after it is in the ground. -Jesse & Tara, Yr 5, 1999 |
|
| Newspaper. We put six layers of newspaper down and put a hole in the middle for the tree trunk. The newspaper decomposes and gives the tree food. It traps moisture and helps the roots grow. We think this is cool because newspaper is made out of trees and now it is being recycled! -Hayley C & Telcha, Yr 5, 1999 |

| Investigate more birds that fly or walk into Our Rainforest. | |
| Mulching Mulch helps plants stay healthy and helps the tree with nutrients. It also helps the palnt stay fertilised and stops weeds. Mulch contains mostly worms, horse and cow manure and broken down leaves. -Steph, Yr 5, 1999 |

| When it finishes raining the steam goes
up into the clouds and evaporates into water and forms into rain and starts all over
again. If you had no rainfall all the plants would die and there would be no rainforest.
If all of the water was dried out in all of the rainforests, all the creatures and animals
and trees would die because the soil would be hard and there would be hardly any moisture
left in the ground, so the trees would die. -Daniel & Michael,Yr 5,1999 |

| Watch the animals that are active at night in our Rainforest. | |
| A new stage has been planted and young trees are marked with stakes. |
|
| Every stage is marked with a sign to create a sense of history in our rainforest project. |
|
| Check out other plants in our rainforest. | |
| Simeon and James search for the eggs and larvae of the Richmond Birdwing Butterfly. |
|
| It is hoped that the successful planting of the host vine, Pararistolochia praevenosa, will attract the butterfly to our school. |
