'Save the PCYC' Aerosol Art Comp.

Organized and supported by the Planet X Youth Centre & North Sydney PCYC

Recently, the North Sydney PCYC and Planet X held one of their regular aerosol art competitions. This competition's theme was "Save the PCYC" - in reference to the impending attempt to close them down. Writers taking part in the competition were Coaz, Riet, Owbey, Mase, Art, Moist, Dmon and Kmit.

It was a fierce competition, with Coaz narrowly gaining the advantage with a piece well incorporated into the theme. On pieces alone Owbey achieved the most impessive result. The day was a runnaway success and Mosman Youth participants look forward to many more just like it.

Camp At The Pittwater Basin

Organized and supported by the North Sydney PCYC and the Mosman Youth Development Centre.

On 23 January 2001, the Mosman Youth Development Centre and the North Sydney PCYC made their long awaited return trip to the Pittwater Basin campsite located in the Kuring-Gai National Park. This year the camp went for 3 days and 2 nights, with the middle day spent at Palm Beach. The campsite can only be accessed by the Pittwater Ferry, but by using the PCYC contacts, the camping party were able to use the generosity of the water police to deliver and pick everyone up.

The campers were blessed with 3 days of hot weather that made the swimming all the better. Once the tents were up, it didn't take long before the campers were in the cool water of the Basin Campsite beach area. After lunch airborne styles were tested with leaps from the Basin wharf. Bombs, dives, twists, forward flips, back flips and even back flips with a twist were all tested with only one casualty, a failed dive that turned into a gut-buster.

The hard day swimming was ended with snags on a BBQ, bonfire and toasted marshmallows. Day 2 saw everyone take the ferry over to Palm Beach for sun and surf. The swell was ideal for body surfing and the weather was even better for sun baking. After lunch the Palm Beach jump rock was given a testing out. More dives, bombs and twists were experimented from the rocks into the swell.

The dare-devil feats on the rock only inspired more aerial feats, because on the return to the campsite more wharf jumping took place. On the third and final day people woke early for a quick swim and wharf jump before everyone headed down to the beach for the traditional relay races and human pyramid building. Last year's record of 5 high was safe with four high the best of the day. Sunburn, it appears, was too much of an obstacle to over come.

But all good things come to an end, with the arrival of the water police signaling the end of the camping trip at the Pittwater Basin. All that was needed to finish of the trip was the mandatory stop off at Macca's for lunch. So until next year, good-bye.

Jo does the impossible.
