Suggested Activities - Year 2

SOSE, HPE, Science Unit: 'Beside the Seaside' - (a) a series of digital photos of a walk at the seaside with features observed, put on posters in the room with printed captions underneath. (b) a short recount of the walk. (c) a list of different things seen on the day typed up and posted on the wall. (d) using appropriate software, computer drawings of the seaside and animals that live in the sea, which may be added to a class slide show.
Science Unit: Visitors to Our Back Yard - (a) access to software/electronic resources for pictures and basic information about insects. (b) digital photos of insects in the school yard or brought from home and used for making small posters or a slide show on computer. (c) using a paint program with stamps, students draw their back yard and the insects there. (d) access to a collection of animated clip art to create a class web page on min-beasts, with each students typing small piece of text.
Science, HPE, Technology Unit: Toying with Toys - (a) digital photos of children's toys taken during a 'bring a toy' day. (b) class published wall charts about the things that make toys appealing and fun to play with, including higher order thinking of what benefits they might get from toys. (c) redesign a toy - short writing piece with digital photo - what feature(s) does a toy have/could a toy have added to make it better? 
Science, SOSE, HPE Unit: Growing with the Garden - (a) a list of plants typed out that will be grown in the garden and on display on a poster for classroom visitors (b) a computer drawn map by the class on how the garden will be laid out. (c) a class web page with progress reports and updated photos for the school web site which shows parents the growth of the plants (d) a list of healthy foods or a small book of short recipes which incorporate the things grown in the garden. (e) a class concept map on healthy eating and types of foods - why they are good for you. 
SOSE, HPE Unit: People Helpers - (a) people in the community that help others - a published poster of each with large words and clip art. (b) me as a helper - a teacher supported, short typed piece of what type of a helper they would prefer to be and why (c) teacher facilitated class email with a community helper to learn of what their days are like.
Science, Technology, English  Unit: The Cow Jumped Over the Moon - (a) animals that live on earth - why they can't live on the moon - a class published multimedia report with computer drawings of animals. (b) gravity on the moon - how high could people (and therefore a cow) cow jump compared to earth? - a published chart with clip art and simple lines as a picture graph. (c) a class published retrieval chart with all the things we would need to be able to live on the moon (each student typing some words) (d) my moon - what would make a good moon? - short writing piece as a page for wall display.
